Occam’s razor

Occam’s razor can be paraphrased as: All things being equal, often the simplest solution is the best.

The above couldn’t be more true for the following case of a newly appointed IT Director of a company which had both a Cold Room (servers, backup drives, monitors, KVMs, switches, etc) and a Hot Room (PABXs, routers, networking and telephony junction boxes, etc). He was perplexed as to why such an integral room with multiple points of failure potentially bringing the company, from an IT perspective, to it’s knees, was not regarded as a good enough reason to spend the money in keeping it cool and thus limiting the risk of hardware failure.
